  • How Long Can IG Reels Be?

If you’re looking to make some Instagram reels, you’re probably wondering how long can IG reels be. If you’re after a simple answer, here it is:

TL;DR: Instagram reels can be up to 90 seconds long.

But what is the ideal reel length that will keep your audience engaged? Let’s find out!

    Can doesn’t mean should

First things first, just because a reel CAN be 90 seconds long, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you should always make your reels that long. The ideal length of an IG reel should be determined by the content you are creating and the message you are trying to convey.

If you’re just sharing a funny clip, a 15-30 second reel might be ideal. On the other hand, if you’re showcasing a complex process or demonstrating a tutorial, 60-90 seconds might be necessary.

And it’s perfectly fine to have different reel lengths on your page. Here’s an example of a short video below:

    And a longer one here:

How to keep your audience engaged

Now that we’ve got the length down, how can you make sure your Instagram reels are compelling and keep your audience engaged? First, it’s important to have a clear concept for your reel. What do you want to convey to your viewers? What’s the message you’re trying to get across? Once you have a solid concept, you can begin creating your content.

Another tip for creating engaging IG reels is to show your personality! IG reels are a great place to showcase your personal brand and let your audience get to know you better. Don’t be afraid to inject some humour and fun into your content. It’s also important to be authentic and stay true to yourself.

How to edit your Instagram reels

One thing that can really make your IG reels stand out is editing. You don’t need to be a professional editor to create visually appealing reels. There are plenty of apps out there (such as InShot, CapCut, and Adobe Premiere Rush) that can help you add effects, transitions, and music to your videos. You can also experiment with different video formats, such as stop-motion or time-lapse, to make your content even more creative and eye-catching.

    Talk to your audience

Finally, don’t forget to engage with your audience! Instagram reels are a great way to spark conversation and get your followers involved. Ask for their opinions, answer their questions, and acknowledge their comments. This will show that you value their input and can help build a stronger relationship with your followers.

In summary, IG reels can be up to 90 seconds long, but the ideal length should depend on the content you’re creating. To make your reels engaging, focus on having a clear concept, showing your personality, experimenting with editing, and engaging with your audience. With these tips in mind, you’ll be well on your way to creating compelling and successful Instagram reels that will keep your followers coming back for more!

  • How To Improve Reel Quality On Instagram: I Spoke To Meta On The Phone

I was selected to have a 1-to-1 phone call with a Reel expert at Meta this week (his name was Luca) and he taught me how to improve reel quality on Instagram and generally how to grow my Instagram based on the latest algorithm updates.

He actually gave me a lot of valuable info (I recorded it all so I don’t forget!) which I’d like to share with you today.

Before we begin, I always share all the latest social media updates on my newsletter first, so if you haven’t subscribed, do it now to stay ahead of the game!

Let’s dive right in, shall we?

Should you share your reels to your story?

Yes, absolutely. That counts as an extra view, and engages a different part of your audience, that may not have seen your post.

Copying directly from Luca’s follow up email, this is what he said: Share Reel to Grid + Share Reel to Story (maybe with a sticker covering it “New Reel”)

Do keywords in captions matter, like on TikTok?

No, your caption can be about absolutely anything and doesn’t have to describe what’s going on in your reel. That’s what hashtags are for.

Do hashtags still matter on Instagram?

YES! He said several times that hashtags are very important. He recommended using 3-8 (despite my protests that I’ve noticed that 30 always perform better for me 🤷‍♀️) and to use a mixture of a couple of big ones and the rest niche (30:70 ratio).

He said you can keep the big ones the same for every post, but vary the niche ones from time to time.

This should go without saying, but make sure the hashtag is relevant to what you’re posting to help the right audience find you. Don’t use hashtags like #explorepage because they’re useless

What’s the best way to edit your Reel?

I didn’t ask this question but this was one of the many best-practice things he recommended anyway.

Instagram prefers you to edit your Reel within the app 😭

It doesn’t have to be all the time (I complained that the app editor is a pain in the ass and he agreed with me), but from time to time, try to edit something within Instagram itself, even if it’s just adding text overlays there instead of CapCut.

Any advice for speaking to camera Reels?

    Always have captions.

Does tagging another account in your caption or Reel affect your reach?

After going viral, my views aren’t that high anymore…

That’s normal. Don’t worry and just stay consistent with your posts.

    Photos vs Reels

This was one that I didn’t ask but was very happy to know about!

He said that Instagram are now prioritising profiles with variety, but not the kind you’re thinking of!

Whereas before it was all about Reels for growth, now you should be aiming at a mixture of both Reels and photos if you want your page to grow!

After the call I went to look at a few huge and successful pages that I follow, and I’ve noticed previously that they were posting more photos but didn’t realise that the mix was almost 1:1 or with a slight preference to Reels, but still with lots of photos/carousels.

I told him that whenever I post photos, I never get the same reach as with Reels. He said that’s totally fine and to be expected. But having that as a strategy for at least 2 MONTHS will be beneficial in the LONG-TERM!

So anything you do on your page that’s different, stick with it consistently for at least 2 months to see a difference. And actually, that’s how I got my first viral Reel, I switched to posting every single day for 2 months.

What is the most important thing about Reels?

CONSISTENCY! Luca mentioned this several times as the N.1 most important factor if you want to grow your channel.

Whatever number you go for, try to stick to it. He said the more often you post the better (within reason, of course), and when I asked if 1 post a day is good, he said that’s perfect.

Copying from his follow up email, he said: As I mentioned consistency is very important for your distribution and for you to get discovered. By remaining consistent you’re also training your followers to expect another Reel from you, let’s say on Sunday. Kind-of like a Reels-Series, and through consistency, you also assure your followers keep on following your content. (+ you can also preschedule reels)

NO! This one probably surprised me the most.

He said, you know that trending arrow that appears on audio? That’s going away!

The algorithm is changing so it’s not going matter what audio you use anymore (finally, no more hearing the same stuff on everyone’s posts!).

And you know what, the several times I went viral on both Instagram and TikTok (links are to my viral videos as examples), I did NOT use a trending sound.

I also asked if it matters if we take an audio from a page within our niche (e.g. if you’re a lifestyle influencer and you use an audio that’s mostly used by car enthusiasts, will is affect your reach) and he said it doesn’t matter.

Basically, go wild, use ANY audio you like!

Does using a collaboration Reel with someone else affect your reach?

This one we didn’t talk about, but he included it in his follow up email: Remix an existing Reel. You can use another creator’s reel to add your own reel after it or have yours appear side by side.

    Repurposing videos

This one should come as no surprise, but in case you’re still posting content with TikTok watermarks – don’t.

Since Threads came out, my views are super low for the first 24 hours, then it picks up a little. What’s going on?

Luca said, if you notice things that are suddenly out of the ordinary like the example above, that means that Instagram are running tests. He didn’t seem at all surprised by this and just said to flow with it, things are constantly changing. If their test works, they will roll it out to more users, if it doesn’t, they will revert it or do something different.

Anything else on how to improve reel quality on Instagram?

The beginning of your video is the most important part so you want it to be engaging to hook your viewer in.

If someone watches your video for more than 5 seconds, only then does it count as a view (how did I not know this??), so try to keep them hooked.

Hope you found this useful! Keep in touch 😉

  • Agorapulse Review: Is It Really Worth The Hype?

With so many social media management platforms available in the market, it can be difficult to choose the right one, and as a social media manager who’s used the platform for over 5 years now, I wanted to write a personal Agorapulse review.

As social media becomes increasingly important in the marketing world, businesses and individuals have to find efficient ways to manage their social media accounts through third parties. One such platform is Agorapulse – an all-in-one social media management tool that makes managing social media easy and efficient. But is Agorapulse really worth the hype? In this Agorapulse review, we’ll take a detailed look at the platform’s features, pricing and user experience, and help you decide whether it’s the right tool for you.

    Agorapulse Review of Features

First up, let’s talk about Agorapulse’s features. Agorapulse offers all the standard features that you’d expect from a social media management tool – content scheduling, social inbox, reporting and analytics, team collaboration, and more. However, its real strengths lie in its unique features.

For instance, Agorapulse has a built-in CRM system that allows you to manage your customer relationships effectively by keeping track of their interactions with your brand on social media. It also has a feature called ‘requeue’, which automatically re-shares your evergreen content after a specified time period, ensuring that your posts get more exposure.

Another really cool feature is Agorapulse lets you schedule posts into Facebook groups, which is definitely not a feature many platforms have.

Agorapulse’s inbox feature is nothing short of a godsend too. Not only does it help organize comments and messages from different social media platforms, but it also allows me to assign those comments to team members, track response time, and most importantly, automate a lot of tasks. This feature alone has saved me countless hours of digging through disparate threads.

But, it doesn’t end there. Agorapulse’s social media calendar is impeccable in its ability to help me visualize my client’s content across all channels. The user-friendly interface ensures that scheduling, publishing and editing are a breeze. Even better, the content queue feature means that I can plan and schedule content far in advance, keeping things organized and on track.

Whether you like to view your calendar by month, week, as a list or even preview what your Instagram grid will look like (!!), Agorapulse makes it very convenient.

    Agorapulse Reports / Analytics

Being able to track analytics, access social listening and pull detailed reports has allowed me to continuously keep tabs on how our client’s social media strategy is progressing. This information is invaluable and has helped guide decisions that have ultimately led to greater engagement and growth across all social media channels.

Compared to other platforms I’ve tried (and I’ve tried most of them!), I truly love Agorapulse’s reports. They’re very visually pleasing (and as someone who’s very visual, this is a big plus for me) and there’s a LOT of stuff there.

There are all the obvious things you’d expect from a social media report, like impressions, engagement and follower changes, and it also allows you the ability to compare between 2 dates (Google Analytics style). Agorapulse has a few things that some other platforms don’t have too, like seeing which hashtags perform best for your channel (who said hashtags are dead?), or best posting times.

I really like how you can clearly see how your content performs, so you can find out which posts resonate with your audience and make more like it!

    Agorapulse Costs

Moving on to pricing, Agorapulse is not the cheapest tool available in the market. Its plans start at $89 per month, which may seem steep for small businesses or individuals. However, it’s important to remember that Agorapulse offers powerful features that are worth the investment if you’re serious about managing your social media effectively.

Furthermore, Agorapulse offers a two-week free trial, which allows you to test out its features and decide if it’s the right tool for your business.

    User experience

Next, in our Agorapulse review, let’s talk about user experience. Agorapulse is incredibly easy to use. Its dashboard is intuitive and user-friendly, and doesn’t require any technical knowledge. You can easily schedule, publish and manage your social media accounts in just a few clicks.

Another great thing about Agorapulse is its customer support. They offer excellent support through email, chat and phone, and their team is always ready to help you resolve any issues that you may face.

    The downsides

This wouldn’t be a fair Agorapulse review without seeing all the aspects.

One downside of Agorapulse is that it doesn’t support some social media platforms, such as Pinterest. However, it does support all the major platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube.

    So is Agorapulse worth it?

As a social media manager, I have had the pleasure of experimenting with several social media management tools. But, hands down, Agorapulse is by far the best one I have come across.

Overall, Agorapulse has truly transformed the way I work as a social media manager. It has helped me stay organized, efficient and has allowed me to provide better, data-driven insights to my clients. It’s the one tool I cannot imagine going without now.

Overall, Agorapulse is an excellent social media management tool that offers powerful features, great customer support and an intuitive user experience. While it may not be the cheapest tool available in the market, its features are certainly worth the investment if you’re serious about managing your social media accounts effectively. The two-week free trial is a great way to test out the features and decide if Agorapulse is the right tool for your business. In my opinion, it’s definitely worth it and should be talked about more!

UGC is “marketing a brand through regular people”, as I like to call it. It’s essentially content created by people like you and me, about a particular product or service, for a brand.

UGC is typically shared by brands across social media platforms and is often used for marketing purposes. It can include images, text, videos, audio recordings, and anything else created by users.

It is an effective way of getting people interested in a particular brand as it showcases real-life interactions with customers and the products or services they offer.

UGC is most commonly used across Instagram and TikTok (video and photo).

Is UGC used on organic social or ads too?

User Generated Content (UGC) can be used for both organic social as well as ad campaigns.

Through organic UGC, businesses can create an engaged community of customers by sharing content that they enjoy and not just random stock imagery.

Ads that use UGC tend to be more effective in connecting with customers than standard advertisements as they show real-life interactions with the product by “real people”.

UGC video ads typically require a bit more planning and tend to require a hook, a problem, a solution and a CTA (call to action).

Typically, if a brand wants to use your UGC video for ads, you can ask for more money (I teach all about that in my ultimate UGC guide).

What is a UGC video? Examples:

Ok, so you get the theory behind UGC videos, but what do they actually look like?

There are many forms of UGC, and after a while you’ll learn to recognise them. The most common type used for UGC ads is – you talking to the camera, hyping up a product or service, with b-roll to make the reel look more interesting. It often consists of a “hook” (something to catch the users attention), a list of positives about the brand and a CTA (call to action) at the end.

I don’t normally share my clients, but I like supporting charities or other products I truly see as valuable, so below is an example of one I did for ReDONATEuk that fits into the standard UGC ad category:

Now, the UGC video example below is a totally different form of user generated content. It’s more inspirational and doesn’t have a hard sell, so it’s more frequently used by brands in their organic feed or by luxury brands that seek to inspire their audience to buy their products.

Finally, and I get asked this question a lot – do you need to show your face in a UGC video? No you don’t. A lot of the videos I make are faceless, like this one down here. JUVIA is a fantastic natural product for people with IBS and I’ve done quite a few videos for them that don’t show my face. These types of UGC videos tend to be more aesthetic, informational or just fun.

Why is user generated content so important?

In today’s society, user generated content plays a crucial role in the success of a brand. Gone are the days when brands could rely on traditional marketing techniques to entice customers. Now, customers want to engage with brands on a personal level, and UGC provides just that.

Firstly, UGC allows brands to establish a personal connection with their consumers. Such a connection not only boosts brand loyalty but also increases the likelihood of customers recommending the brand to others.

Secondly, user generated content is a great marketing strategy for brands as it offers a unique perspective on their products. Customers tend to trust each other more than they trust brands – after all, no one knows a product better than the people who use it every day. By featuring user-generated content, brands are showcasing an honest and narratively-rich take on their products.

UGC creator jobs – where to find them?

If you’re a new creator, it can feel overwhelming knowing where to start and where to look for UGC jobs. So many different things to learn (like NEVER do work without a contract!) and so many apps to sign up to. Below are a few simple ways you can get started.

    – Scroll through social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, if you come across a brand that is utilizing UGC content, send them a DM! Many of these brands partner with UGC creators, making them an ideal target for pitching.

    – Search through Twitter regularly for any posts regarding UGC creators needed by companies. Just make sure to vet the company first before engaging in any deals as there can be a lot of spammy offers.

    – There are also a lot of apps and websites that connect creators and brands. I’ve got a large list of them in my UGC guide and I update it as soon as new ones come out. Some of these have been great for me and they take the effort out of looking for brands yourself. You can find the list in “Become a UGC Creator in Just 7 Days” – possibly the most comprehensive UGC guide out there.

    – Facebook groups can be a good place too. If you’re in the UK/EU, join my group here. I keep it spam-free unlike most of the UGC groups out there, and brands actively post jobs there.

    – I have one more resource for you and I think you’ll like this one. There’s a FREE newsletter that sends you UGC jobs to your mailbox several times a week. You can sign up to it here. It mostly has jobs for creators in the US and Canada, but sometimes it has jobs in the UK, Europe and worldwide.
